They're basically kinda-sorta alien technology further developed and utilized by humans for the purpose of fighting invading forces among other things. They have/need pilots. They do seem to have some issues, as the insect team's existence is partially to hunt "rouge" MoMos.
You can see pics of some of the dudes they fight in the last thread, little robotic fellows who're almost implike in stature compared to your average MoMo.
