Most of the OMG dolls are dark skin/non-white, and I’m completely fine with that because they are well-designed and their color schemes don’t clash with their skin tones.
Take Virtuelle here for example. She’s the darkest OMG so far, which usually doesn’t sell well, but she would look horrible in a Caucasian skin tone.
She’s themed after retro gaming and clad in neon colors. The dark skin is a necessary contrast because of how bright everything else is, like LEDs on a black screen. Her micro braids (a black coded hairstyle) also fit into the retro gaming theme, being a simplified way to render hair in PS1 era 3D games.
In contrast, Mattel black-coded dolls tend to wear bright pink lipstick which can look like a blackface caricature on dark skin because they are designed by pale people who just guess what Latinos and blacks wear.
Barbie fashionistas constantly use how diverse they are as a selling point. But lol OMG dolls just are. They depict a wide variety of fashions from different decades and subcultures. When you see a doll that looks like X ethnicity, it’s because the designers wanted to showcase a style of fashion that’s common among that demographic, not because “need more POC”.
