In your alternate history world, does the US and Mexico not exist? Did humanity invent a drug to suddenly become altruistic? Did Jesus descend back to earth in the 70s, aired live on every single tv on earth and say everyone should behave better and armageddon would never happen?
Because what would actually happen is they build factories in the US in the 80s and 90s, and in the 00s, they'd start using Mexico. Plus shipping would be cheap as fuck AND there's no Chinese theivery and corruption, which was so bad it did make Hasbro/Mattel/etc rethink overseas production for a while.
So while using labor in the US and Mexico, China would have remained a giant shithole with people starving, with less rights, but at least there wouldn't be so many explosions from their booming economy.
This is how the world works, not because you think I have some libertarian ideals.
