The current explanation is that SP was the only Prime that could create weapons because "she" could process data in a unique way compared to the other primes. Any Cybertronian descended from "her" has the same processing coded into them. When Cybertronians started spacefaring and encountered species with binary genders, they were able to compare gender binaries with whether or not Cybertronians had Solus's code in them, and thus they adopted gendered pronouns to a) denote the difference, which they find significant enough to point out, and b) I guess it's easier to explain to aliens than "Oh, they can process data different than we do because our robotic ancestors had this weird thing going on". And that's why there's "officially" a 1:13 ratio of female transformers. Honestly, I really like this explanation? It's good science fiction, and it's way better than the passive-aggressive "female transformers exist because SOMEONE forced them to exist" reasons we've been given since the 80s.
Besides, lots of Cybertronians are manly bots that do manly things anyway, like pic related.
