>>8263280I disliked the Roughnecks for similar reasons as a kid. But when I got back into watching the Joe cartoon for the 3rd time, I grew to appreciate them for being kind of an example that the qualities needed to be a Joe aren't cut and dry all the time.
Also I've no idea if it was intentional, but after reading the comics, Chuckles being almost completely silent in the movie makes sense. Assuming he's the badass undercover guy they make him out to be in the comics, it's believable that he's running through this as a formality. His rocket launcher jams in training, and instead of telling the drill sergeant, he just throws the rocket.
They are still one of the goofier parts of Joe, but I think it's a good thing overall. But I understand if you don't feel the same way.
