It's weird. I understand why it'd be upsetting, especially as an adult collector, to have the non variant figures be so scarce, but as a kid, I actually perferred the whacky variant figs. The bolder the colors, the crazier the design, I preferred those Batman suits over the more standard looking ones. Hell, I remember my favorite Robin figure as a kid being from Night Force Ninjas, even though he looked way different than all his other toys. Anyone else?
