The problem comes if it's like tracing; if you trace stuff while drawing you don't learn, you just go through the motions and get something that -looks- like the original a little whilst you have developed nothing. Drawing from observation is a good thing, by contrast, because though you have source material, you learn to imitate it by yourself, and by extension learn to better draw things for yourself (alongside other lessons). I'm not sure if bootlegging is like tracing or observing.
