For example, Makuta probably used it in mask-making by giving himself full control over the tempering process - making his hammer strikes as precise as possible, and ensuring that the metal set in just the right way.
However, its power can probably be abused by extending to mind control and (at least brief) harnessing of the elements. The mask's power is probably how he even managed to forge a Mask of Ultimate Power in the first place.
