So the Morphonauts Kickstarter is up, a series of 4" figures who's arms and legs are connected to the torso via strong magnets, and are still fully poseable. One of the 3 main characters from the campaign is a robot, and is modular in his own right (including his backpack with 4 ports on it for weapons or what have you), but of even greater note is that one of the stretch goals is an 8" tall modular robot.
Here's a render of the 4" robot and the 8" one. The smaller robot (or any of the characters) can ride inside the cockpit of the larger robot.
