I liked finding them at mom and pop dollar stores as there was a lot more variety, it was fun to build new and different armies. Now they're mostly gone, replaced by chains like Dollar Tree and Dollarama that have uniform selection across their branches and they're equally uninspiring.
When I lived in Europe it seemed like every other store had a toy section, and every toy section had army men of some kind. I miss that, though I wonder if times have changed there as well.
