It's how companies save money by not including more details on their toys and i even realized that as a kid.
Just sculpted detail on the playset vs something that could be played with, and that's why MM stuff was actually more expensive than Mighty Max stuff.
I personally didn't really like MM sets like pic, but they basically had the same amount of playzones as a normal Mighty Max set, but far larger and more working features. It's plainer because it's more defined, while the Mighty Max sets are more abstract.
