best thing i could do was make and attach a cutout guard with cardboard to my own toy sword, stick a magnet behind it, and instead of orbs id use specifically-colored button pins (sans the pin) to emulate that slot-in feel. id even write the moonrunes on them.
i also remember finding random marbles on the ground, and had an obsession to stick them in holes. i even had a decorative jewel box/ash tray? that had a lid with a pattern of holes that were a perfect fit, and id re-enact that certain scene
