Part of what puts soul into a build or set is that imagination you yourself put into it that fills in the details. You can't really do that when things are too detailed like an exact model kit. When every minifigure has a name and complicated backstory, some of that is lost. You need room to make up things yourself without it being so barebones that they don't give you anything to work with. That's how giant specialty pieces make you feel. Sets that tease the imagination enough to hit that sweet spot to automatically make you come up with more in your head are perfect. Real photographs in the promotional material help too because you need something tangible to connect with.
