There's a reason why the symbiote is always shown as being the thing that shapeshifts, adds mass, etc and not the human itself. There's no pocket dimensions for the head to disappear to and the human isn't shapeshifting either.... at least, back in the 90s. Who knows what they've retconned since then, but even current art still shows that there's a normal human in the center
