Whats really weird is that initial Dragon ball Z toys were marketed as "The Saga Continues!".While we did get part of Dragon Ball briefly dubbed, it was no where near popular enough for most people to know it was a continuation that early on. Even weirder, they released like every wave at once, long before those characters debuted on TV. So we got SBC Cell and Buu while the anime hadn't gone past Saiayn saga on TV here. Buu and Mr. Satan even used non-official localized named(Boo and Mr strong, I beleive)
