With the Digimon in them all intermixing across each others webs. God was that a missing fucking feature from the Vital Bracelet shit. If I have 2 Agumons, why can't they both become all the same shit? Why can one Agumon only become Greymon and the other has so many more options? Give the unit an egg to start and then one for every DiM you add and you'd be golden. Maybe add roster data when you plug the thing into a game, too. So people have more incentive to get the games.
I feel like Digimon would just be so much more personal if they were actual semi unique virtual pets and you could move them from game to game or v-pet unit to v-pet unit as you moved along yourself.
