Other M was an attempt to Japanize the franchise, make Samus more of a nimble anime heroine rather than a walking tank in terms of gameplay and more of a Rei Evangelion rather than a Ellen Ripley in terms of portrayal. It didn't go over great with any demographic. I'm fairly sure Sakamoto approved of Samus' western portrayal, so I wonder if he regrets making that play for the homeland audience.
