>>9909279By now everything associated with the first three movies is practically deified, so it's hard to see objectively, but I think the first three movies did legitimately provide a lot more to sink your teeth into visually. Luke's iconic all-black outfit with the shiny boots and torn tunic to reveal the triangle of white underneath. Han's outfit is relatively simple but he looks smooth in it. Lando's cape. Leia's hair buns. These aren't really huge or special things, but I do like how they look, and I simply don't like most of the costuming or styling in the new movies. Also, those old movies were full of so many toyetic aliens and side characters and villains. So much so that we've gotten toys of them nonstop for like four decades now. One of my biggest problems with the new movies is that there's so little cool-looking shit. A of the aliens are dull or unimaginative or just a human with one 'weird' feature tacked on.
This is also why I really liked Solo, it felt like a return to having a world populated with interesting looking characters (many of which appeared to be practical rather than CG). Felt like a totally different design ethos from the mainline sequels.
