For example look at pic related. Both are MCU Loki Marvel Legends, however the one figure on the left has used the digital face painting vs the older traditional method. It's not a new technology, it's just a technology that has now come around to be used more often throughout various toylines. Before it was pretty much just Bandai's Figuarts lines that used it.
We are also seeing better paint applications on figures like the "Retro" carded marvel legends reissues. Take the Pizza spidey for example. The original had used a gloss finish paint that left glare in images, and the reissue used a more matte finish paint because 1) it looks nicer 2) it feels a lot nicer. They are small and relatively insignificant changes to the figures financially however these finer details are really bringing the figures out and giving them more character.
