I got sick and tired of sanding and puttying this thing so I just decided to paint my Porsche 919 and get it over with. I can't find decent 1/18 scale wheels for it anyway, so it'll end up in a cupboard until I find someone willing to SLA print them for me for a good price...
A note for anyone else normally building scale models considering using PLA 3D prints, here is my experience:
-Amazingly hard to sand smooth even with power tools since heating makes the plastic melt and uneven so you'll have to putty it up and sand it again
-Cutting panels lines the traditional way (scalpel, scribers, razor saw) is extremely difficult compared to any normal model kit. When you run out of patience and decide to try the Dremel on it, you WILL destroy the model you spent days and days sanding
-Filling missing things in with PP sheet is very easy and superglue holds on decently, but you definitely need more surface area than the 2-3 square millimeters I have in the wheelarches for it to stick. Other parts hang on just fine
-Vallejo Air paints work great for PLA, excellent coverage and adhesion and no peeling with the masking tape
Detail wise, just forget about it. It would have been a much better build in a smaller scale on an SLA printer, but I'll finish this thing if it kills me and then go back to my kit planes where I belong
