They've done that, too. Even Takara has been guilty of that, considering they made Sureshock female in Armada by naming her Arcee, arguably making her the first female minicon retcon. I also have no problems with Nitro Convoy being female in Cybertron considering Taakra made the Air Military minicons into girls for an exclusive set, despite not looking feminine at all.

I'd kinda like to see those Minicons Falcia, Combusta and Twirl re-done as a female Decepticon jet team. Falcia could be a Voyager class fighter jet, Twirl could be a Deluxe class scout plane, and Combusta could be a massive Leader-class heavy bomber. Their schtick could be that Twirl acts as a "spotter", locating targets for Combusta, who bombs said target into oblivion whilst Falcia provides fighter support for the other two.
