But I need to control the middle gear from the outside of the build and I was wanting that to be at the bottom of the build so the minifigures could do it. This will be built inside of a tree and the idea is that the minifigs push a secret branch and parts of the tree move and open. I think can make this work though. Here is a rough build I have made using your great idea with the tree panels in the closed and open positions (1/2)
