You could buy a box of five or six themed minifigs from a Town, Space, or Castle line (later they had Pirates boxes too) for $4.99 USD. You wanted some Blacktron minifigs but you were a kid so you didn't have enough to buy a set? Five bucks gets you two Blacktron and four Futurons, all equipped with their own gear.
