I'd still considering that a "hand" system versus actual automated systems you'd see in a factory or at Lego. My $600 estimate is just based on seeing various models floating around the $300-$1000 range. I don't actually know what it'll cost or if you could find one aftermarket for a reasonable price - that will depend on which injector you actually decide to pursue.
Despite my initial call for caution, I do wish you luck. I come from a very pragmatic background and grew up with lots of rich senseless morons, so that's why I lean towards the "if you don't know how, just don't" mentality. Sorry for that. I still suggest that you take up an easier and less costly method of making new things like woodworking so you can build up the kind of intuitive design mentality that will last a lifetime and apply to every new technique you adopt.
