1. You could always convert a videogame model to blender or Zbrush and chop it up (more annyoying than it sounds but anons have done it.}
2. Buy a base 3d model to start with that is predesigned to be changed. Murcurial Forge has a lot of attractive bases to start with if you use zbrush. www artstation com/mercurialforge/store
3. Go light with the customization and only do parts, and add them to something like the hobby base bodies or body kun.
