It's like designing a model kit all by himself (he probably have some help on how the molds should turn out) so it has to be time consuming. With PVC you just sculpt the figure and the molds are just two sides of those chunks. The joints are preexisting. With Optimus or Shinkalion the joints are all unique and you have to consider some internal structures as well. And ideally you keep cost down by avoiding the need to paint everything so you want to keep the plastic's colors as much as possible. Optimus was simple in that aspect, but probably gave up for 500 Type Eva. That was like purple and grey plastic with tons of paint apps all over. Probably why it was expensive.

He definitely reused the 3D model from the anime/toy packages for that on though. He mentioned he had to change that Eva head so it can look up. Articulation setup was nothing special too so it must not have taken his time that much if it's any comfort. It's weird he made that thing in the first place, but being Takara x Evangelion was enough of a reason probably.

I think the rewards are not worth the effort. The main body of New Eva-02 Alpha was PVC anyways and that JA-02 mechanical body parts looks fantastic and moves with ease.
