Except back then, it wasn't the normal people doing it, but some government and education groups going after the media.
Today the government and education groups are still doing it, but more normal people also push that shit.
Basically, it's more noticeable today, because of how social media works. Before, you had to go OUTSIDE and be in the city centre to see shit like this. MAYBE the news media would report on it, but not always.
Today any lazy fat piece of shit can post about it online and drum up support by telling them that unless they don't pass it along their mom will die in their sleep tonight, or say you're racist if you don't, and other bullshit ways to get likes and links.
Still, all the shit people posted? That's worse than any entertainment media today. The agenda is more up front and there were 5 or 8 new shows like it every single year. Common as fuck and it was trash.
