My dad told me stories where granddad really wanted him to be into spy stuff because that's what he grew up with and he never really cared what my dad actually wanted. I even knew several kids growing up that their parents wanted them to like their cartoons growing up like Loony Tunes or Tom and Jerry. It's sadly not a hard belief that is what's happening when you have things like pic related on the market for half a decade selling as well as it did.
