Difference being, the FR is all model plastic. No pvc (or abs? forgot what's what) and painting.
The faces, imo, look quite bad on the FR kits. Like they're too sharp or something?
And though not like Bandai does a good job removing sprue marks from their figs, the FR kits will have a lot more, since you're cutting out every single piece yourself.
Gotta master painting to make them look good.
Some easy shading with markers does a decent job I guess.
