I never got the NECA 54 so I wouldn't know why others like it, but I've always liked the 62, 64, 89, and 2002 because they have great articulation (especially the 89) and pretty good sculpts (the only issues being the heads of 62 and 89 being a little off). Plus the Neca 64 is so much larger than the dinky little SHMA 64 which is out of scale with the rest of the line abandoned the idea of having the Showa monsters be scale accurate to the 6' Heisei monsters. I can only imagine how silly the SHMA 64 would look if it were placed next to the new Hedorah
