Pic related is based off #7778090 and #7777196, the latter of which was done on the toa kaita, only in the front. Having the friction closer to where the twist is applied should be easier on the main axle. I'm wondering how safe it is to let that 3-long axle go through the upper body though. Also, Pohatu's head would have to be attached a bit more like Onua's, but on the lower axle point (upper, for Pohatu).
This is 17 parts in total, with four new kinds, two of which are used twice (sides of the hip and the male piston components, assuming they don't already exist). The gear arc in the middle of the hip could be reuseable on rahkshi/matoran.
Also, putting ball joints on the hips rather than hanging handplates causes you to lose height. Theoretically you could make up for this by using a longer rod in the middle, but then you need longer piston components. You'd need broader shoulders too, if you wanted to keep the triangles matched.
