Code Geass is less mecha oriented but still an absolute fucking wild ride so I'll give you that
Fafner is actually genuinely great although the first 12 episodes do drag until they switch directors and the OVA, Movie and Exodus are great too
I'll throw in Armored Trooper Votoms, solid action series with some really cool robots and I'm breaking the non-transforming rule but I'd recommend Macross very highly, Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross Plus and Macross 7 are some of the best mecha shows out there. Avoid Frontier like the fucking plauge though that shit's garbage.
