Ewoks are midget bears and midgets are shit. Very limited because of how awkward their locomotion is, but you can't say that they weren't original back then or even cartoony. Maybe if they moved like they did in the cartoon it'd be more believable they could do fight and fight stuff, instead of wave their stubs around ackwardly. CGI would have worked in their favor, powerful little bears like chimps are to humans, except with better motor control.
And there's still 3498234098324093824 other aliens in the universe and many of them are iconic ones.
