>>8934585Pretty much, yeah. It started out looking like it could be a good comeback. There was certainly a bunch of hype surrounding it, and the short and mysterious sneak peeks, previews, and reveals also made it seem like it would “have that old charm”, so to say, that early G1 had.
But yeah, Ninjago and Lego itself pretty much killed Bionicle G2. Even if it had sold better (which, it actually sold somewhat well, all things considered, even though most people said it undersold, it only “undersold” because Lego put up too many “requirements” for what would “sell well” so they’d have more reasons to cancel the line. Basically, falsified and arbitrary reasons to get it out of the way in order to cancel it) Lego still probably would’ve canceled it as soon as it could, because Bionicle’s formula required them to come up with somewhat unique set designs each wave and new pieces such as masks and some new body pieces/shells as well, while with Ninjago, the mini-figures pretty much stay the same, and if something needs to be changed with them, it’s just a paint application or a different color of plastic, and at most, just a small hunk of plastic accessories need to be modeled, which needed less overall detail and QC than Bionicle pieces would have needed to been. Plus I think it was cheaper and easier for Lego to produce their bricks and brick-related prices then it was to make CCBS and Technic pieces.
Basically, Lego was/is being cheapo and greedo.
