>>9407299Same reason they refuse to make definitive versions of Luke, Anakin, Han, Leia, Obi-Wan. It keeps collectors hooked. With the advancements in the toy industry, there is no reason to not have “definitive” action figures at this point. Everything is sculpted on a computer now. They have archives of digital files containing bucks, headsculpt portraits, accessories, etc. that they could mock up and make fantastic tools of.
Instead, they choose to rerelease the same couple of Luke bodies and repaint them for different looks or all new characters. My favorite character out of the whole saga is Obi-Wan. I love every version of him, from the OT to PT to the cartoons. The first Black Series figure they did of him was that awful ROTS version with the pea head that looked like it was painted easter chocolate. For a debut character in such a “premium” line, they dropped the ball. That was 8 years ago. Since then, they’ve improved quite a bit. Yet they still have the audacity to rerelease that same figure and charge more for their archive line. It’s all they do. Those early figures don’t hold up and they slap some paint and face print tech as if they do. It’s garbage when we have seen what they’re capable of. The Episode I Palawan/AOTC Jedi Knight is a fantastic figure despite the lack of robes and accessories. Those headsculpts of Ewan Mcgregor are some of the best human portraits in the line. The best one? It’s the ROTS era portrait that has been released on TWO clone wars exclusive releases now. It’s infuriating that they don’t take that head and make a new Jedi Master body two fit in with the current standards of the line.
This is what Hasbro does. They thrive on people’s OCD. Think about it, why give people cool Army Builders or definitive heroes and villains when people will buy up the mediocre product they make regardless? They capitalize on people buying different versions and trying to Frankenstein the “perfect” figure.
