Everyone picks on Fin, but he's just a JarJar. The real problem is Rey. How can you attract people to this series when the protagonist is a big nothing? They fell on their sword to capture the young girl demographic, and they don't care. My older sister got me into Star Wars by buying me a Luke figure as a kid; she was a kid in the 70's and just like Star wars. not because she was pandered to, she just liked it. You can't force these things onto an audience. It would've been fine to have a girl Jedi, but they banked so hard on her and forgot to make her an appealing character.
Luke was iconic. Anakin was maligned, but you remember why you hated him. Two movies in and Rey has nothing. The only think I can say about her was that she was cute as a scavenger.
