Yeah Treebeard is all plastic. I had to throw one of them away though because the plastic started breaking down and secreting that plasticizer oil. No matter how many times I washed it, it would just have that sticky melting feel to it. My other one is fine though.
The Toy Biz line from 2001-2005 isn’t perfect by any means, but there are so many great gems. My favorites are the following,
- Electronic Sauron (one of my favorite figures ever)
- Electronic Treebeard
- Gimli vs Uruk Hai
- Helms Deep Legolas
- Faramir
- King Theoden (Armored)
- Moria Orc archer
- Battle Cry Uruk Hai
- Beserker Uruk Hai
- Shagrat
- Gothmog
- Orc LT (with the skull helmet, he’s awesome)
- Isengard Orc Captain
- Isengard Orc axe (one of my favorite orcs)
- SP Boromir
- SP Frodo
- SP Sam
- Balrog Battle Gandalf
- Gondor Pippin
- Rohan Merry
- Morgul Witchking
- Gorbag w/ webbed Frodo
- Shelob (deluxe)
- Frodo in Orc disguise
- Sam in Orc disguise
- Gandalf Stormcrow (Gandalf the White)
- Horse and Rider Ringwraith w/ horse
- Mouth of Sauron
I have Isildur, Gil-galad, Prologue Elrond and Elendil going up against my Electonic Sauron and it’s sweet. Can’t imagine any company ever doing articulated figures of the prologue.
Even figures of like Denethor or Rivendell Elrond are really well done. I really like the possessed versions of Bilbo, Galadriel and Theoden too. They look like they jumped off the screen.
They’re not perfect, but the ones I listed are well done. You’d never see a line like that done today. You have to remember. Wave 1 for Fellowship was pretty basic. All the figures had action figures and clunky bases. It wasn’t until the Two Towers where things really started getting good. Before the line died, they were on the right track with some really cool. By 2006, every figure was super detailed and highly articulated. Most of the best figures came out towards the tail end of the line.
