What do you think the best overall year/series for the toyline was? I feel a lot would say late 97/98 due to the transmetals, but I think the peak was 97 with the second year of organic beasts. It feels like all the basics were generally great toys, the deluxes had more convincing alt-modes, the megas were all generally fun even if they all ended up shelfwarmers, and the combiners were cool additions. The transmetals are great, too, but they simplified a lot of the cool engineering that was being developed up til then. Even with the "third mode" the transformations were generally simpler. I feel like G1 purists who like the robot beasts sort of overrate the Transmetals overall.
In fact, I'd even say I prefer the Fuzors the older I get, because the better fuzors seemed to keep the more interesting engineering and design that the Transmetals didn't have.
