You got some surfaces worn, scratched and chipped down to the zinc-chromate, some, like panel edges, screws and rivets to the bare metal. The autistic USN method of repainting every panel line after removing them would probably be excessive on a normal land-based fighter, where corrosion/salt-water protection is not that much of an issue.
