Convoy IS a rank in jap lore, the equivalent of Prime.
Also bear in mind, Lio Convoy isn't called that in Japan anymore, Leo Prime is his name there too. Takara has largely dropped the Convoy moniker, they bring it back for products aiming for maximum toon accuracy like Masterpieces, but new versions of any Convoy like chug toys use Prime now.
