To be fair, the only reason it looks to be "play doh-tier" is because it doesn't have the cracks painted in like you see on the arms and prototype.
The sculpt looks identical to the prototype. Only difference i see is his dress having the blue stripes changed.
The camera/lighting is shit, hence the difference in the look of the figure from OP and these two photos.

Unlike you, i like waiting to see pics and the figure itself in person before buying anything.
Pic is from a still from a video i took of the prototype years ago. Since I'm not a shut in like most of you, I'll be checking out the figure in person before deciding it's worth buying or not.
