The new trilogy lacks and cool battles and is too concerned with trying to do moral complexity that no kid wants toys to recreate battles.
Look at TLJ. They blew up Poe’s “iconic” ship, so what kid wants a toy of it now?
The big Poe space battle was shown immediately to be a terrible thing to have happened, so what kid wants to recreate it?
The salt planet was basically ships they told you are garbage which all get shot to pieces. Even adult collectors don’t care.
Rogue One had a few cool battles, but it was hindered by a cast where the only likeable characters had no backstory or much screentime. The space battle was the only good thing it gave us. Which didn’t factor into the merchandising mind you, there was no airlock X-Wing battle set.
Basically all the new movies have going for them is lightsaber battles, which are flashy like Maul was but I’d say lack the amazing music that really sold the old lightsaber fights. You hear the music piece from any lightsaber duel and you remember the excitement from the scene, while Rey’s theme is the only memorable piece from the new ones. Which itself is nice, but has a Harry Potter opening title feel rather than a battle sound to sell toy soldiers.
Pic unrelated.
