>>11609558the simple answer is:
Lego is Evil*
*Evil = learning how to maximize profits by consumer manipulation
the tactic will eventually work on you.
(FOMO Fear Of Missing Out)
by doing this consistently, you will be trained to jump on that one set you can't live without. not this time. this time you'll be ready. damn them, but you can't miss out on this one, you missed out last time.
in the present, there exist channels to reclaim these lost sets. you know, that 2nd-hand website that... whoops! Lego owns that site? well, you can figure out that site, and still get the set, for a massive price. it might be a real person trying to get a "coupon" discount off the $1000 set they just bought (Lego wins because they still bought the $1000 set to get it) or perhaps Lego is money-laundering excess inventory of their own set through shadow names (in which case they get to sell you a small set for a massive price, indirectly-directly themselves)
win-win-win for Evil* Lego.
