At home bomb making...
A-models 1/72 AN602 "Tsar Bomba". Quite the supersized can of instant sunshine, the bloody thing's about the length of a WW2 fighter. Short run kit, so as expected the fit is largely a DIY thing. The biggest issue was that you can build it either as the blunt-nosed museum version, or as it was actually dropped, which seems to mean an aerodynamic nose cone. Now as the plastic here isn't exactly to scale thickness we can't just slip on the extra nose, and the blunt nose is already modelled in on the main body halves. So to get the pointy nose on there, they simply tell you to chop off the museum nose 4mm in front of one of the ridges and put the new nose on instead. Let's just say I ended up needing some filler there all said and done. Likewise the main joint between the body halves needed a good amount of filler and sanding.
The bomb body did have some panel lining, recessed and all, but it was very faint and "weak" to begin with, not quite what you'd want. Naturally this also got completely obliterated anywhere in the vicinity of all the sanding that needed to be done. Good for me and my modelling skills, since I need scribing practice. Not so good for the final result here, since I really do need scribing practice. (Maybe I should go for Heller when it's time to build a Saab 32, raised panel lines there, so plenty to practice on.) 24 wheels so far, and carriage is going to have two spares sitting under it as well. If you thought you'd be spared the wheel cleaning just because it isn't a tank kit...
