Heck, by embracing 3D printing, you could sell supplementary files to hobbyists and even hold contests to select tgird party designs for regular production (with permission from creators or course).
It is kind of sad that there isn't a really great stocking stuffer/budget toyline for kids. A friend of mine was complaining that it takes montha for his 8 year olds to save up pocket money for anything whereas he used to take only a week or two at most.
