The closed off "Type B" hips have actually been around for years, they were first debuted in 2008 on SHF Domon Kasshu. Bandai has switched back and forth (seemingly at random) between the two types over the years. I think there's even a third type now, since Bruce Lee's hips seem to have some different shit going on.
Really, what SHFSS is all about is that the bodies are supposedly sculpted on top of an internal skeleton and muscle structure, which is intended to keep the body proportions realistic. This was not done for Blade, and it's honestly kind of apparent. He's not bad looking by any means, but he's not quite on SS level.
