Reposted from last thread, because I found it interesting.
A former Mattel employee who ran the MOTU Classics toy line made a series of videos explaining why the Disney movies were bad from a toy company perspective and why kids and adults wouldn't collect it, which also explains why the movies were bad.
He first did a video on the topic of forced diversity, saying that non-white characters are not as in demand and never will be, because over 63% of the US is white.
This one's touchy because it deals with race and toy sales-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stQGn4LJA0c >little boys don't play with female action figures really, and the core audience would be little white boys>none of the main heroes in Rogue One are white aside from Jyn Erso-- a woman>none of the main heroes in ST are white except for women and maybe Luke, who's barely in itHe did another about focusing on the trend of female main characters in movies:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iK2xxMpwU0 >Hunger Games had a "strong" woman lead, so Hollywood; particularly Disney copied the formula several times over with Rey, Jyn, Rose, Jannah, etc.>Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Ghostbusters remake, Harley Quinn, Rey, Rose, and Jannah in ST, all examples>they did it, because marketing told them that strong women were popular>female characters such as Cara Dune and Ahsoka are better, because they weren't created by marketing people and therefore have value as toys>an executive told ToyGuru that Captain Marvel was purely designed in marketing using spreadsheets which is why her toys bombedHe also just did one on the Razor Crest being destroyed and says that shit like that can kill a toy's sales.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlPCQ6sjmk0 >killing off characters-- in this instance the Razor Crest is like a character, and by killing off a character it hurts their sales, which is another reason why Rogue One figures outside of troopers and badguys shelf warmed.
