Sometimes I just lose all inspiration to build models, and then suddenly one day I start working again and can't stop. I was very tempted to buy a new kit and start from there, but I left this unfinished so I'm going to see that it gets completed before I move on to other kits in my backlog, like a Viper Mk. II kit I have.
There's still so much work to be done before I even start painting the exterior though, there's some very large gaps on the underside of the ship from gluing it together that need to be filled, and a lot of sanding to be done. I modified this quite a bit from the original kit, which to be honest is complete garbage with shitty tooling. I opened the air intakes, I used a complete overhaul photoetch cockpit, scratchbuilt my own ejection seat and made the cockpit open / closable via a hinge. I also scribed a few missing panel lines here and there. The landing gear bays were also basically bare on the original tooling, replaced it all with photo etch, and tossed the kit plastic and made much thinner, realistic panels for them. The landing gear too was also complete shit in the kits tooling, I reworked them significantly to give them more detail. All the little nozzle thrusters I made myself by drilling out the kit plastic and creating nozzles out of brass tube which I used a dremel on to shape / sand.
