In conclusion, the reboot body is thicker and more sturdy than the old one. But articulation sacrifices had to be made with this robust body, most notably in the leg department. It’s up to you to decide if you’re willing to live with a new breed of MH dolls that can’t do the horizontal splits or have the knees bend to the sides.
Obviously, Mattel was concerned with making a new body that would not break as easily as the old bodies did through play. And that’s fine. These are children’s toy we adults are collecting. Even so, the rise of under-articulated MH dolls is troubling, especially when non-budget, full priced dolls get hit with molded-on tops and non bendable knees & elbows.
Personally, I wonder if there will ever be a “Made-to-Move” MH body like Mattel did for the Barbie line. Collectors loved those MTM dolls and I have no doubt that a version of the MTM for Monster High would be a big hit for adult fans of the line.
