Because /co/ is in a catch-22 in which they have a hard time keeping non-capeshit threads alive, but if you'd split the board and isolate the capeshit faggotry, they'd just be posting porn on the new comics board.
It was this specific nuttery that motivated me to start scanlating and storytiming. A blog would just make google beeline people to it who used to read non-capeshit, non-pornographic comics in the first place.
The other aspect was that scanlating is fundamentally illegal and google indexes everything eventually. Even if you deny the crawler, it will still index other people linking to you or reposting your work. So like why would I leave a permanent record of my crime easily accessible to the companies I'm stealing from when I got 4chins?
The final aspect was the event-character of a storytime thread on 4chan and the fact that I could actually push my shit to the front page.
